Symptoms

When open an Excel 2002 workbook in an earlier version of Excel, save the workbook in the earlier version, and then reopen the workbook in Excel 2002, the Print Cell Errors As setting is reset to its default value (Print Cell Errors As Displayed).

Cause

The Print Cell Errors As setting is a new feature in Microsoft Excel 2002. Earlier versions of Excel do not recognize the feature, and so the setting is not able to "round-trip" through earlier versions.

Workaround

When you reopen the file in Microsoft Excel 2002, reset the Print Cell Errors As setting before you print the workbook. To do this, click Page Setup on the File menu, and then click the Sheet tab. Under Print, click the setting that you want in the Cell errors as list.
