When you attempt to add a new network place using the Add Network Place Wizard in Microsoft Excel, the prefix HTTP (Hypertext Transfer Protocol) is recognized as a valid default prefix, but HTTPS (Hypertext Transfer Protocol Secure) is not. Instead, Excel modifies "https" to read "http://s".
For example, if you type httptest, Excel modifies it to the correct format "http://test". However, if you type httpstest, Excel modifies it to "http://stest", therefore acknowledging "http" but not "https" as a valid prefix for the network location.

To work around this issue, type the full prefix https:// when you want to create a secure connection to a new network place.
