Show Desktop does not restore Access and other program windows

Symptoms

The Show Desktop button on the Quick Launch portion of the taskbar minimizes all the open windows on the desktop. When you click it a second time, the windows are not restored as expected but remain minimized.

Cause

This behavior occurs in Microsoft Excel if there is more than one workbook open in the same instance of Excel. This behavior occurs in Microsoft Access if there is another window open (for example, a table, query, or form) in addition to the Database window.

Workaround

Use one of the following methods to restore the minimized programs to the desktop:
  • Click the minimized program buttons on the taskbar. -or-

  • Right-click the minimized program buttons on the taskbar, and then click Restore on the shortcut menu.
