Symptoms

When you receive a secure e-mail message from BizTalk Server 2000, your e-mail client may display the following error message:
This document has an invalid digital signature. Open the message for more information.

Cause

The certificate authority that supplied the digital signature may be unavailable.

NOTE: This error message may occur for other reasons than those listed in this article. For example, it can occur if the certificate has been revoked.

Workaround

To resolve this problem, make sure that the certificate authority is available when you process documents that use digital signatures.

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in BizTalk Server 2000.

If the computer on which the certificate was created is not available, the validity of the certificate cannot be guaranteed.
