Symptoms

When you install Business Portal for Microsoft Dynamics SL you receive the following error messages:


Error Message 1

MbfPackager.exe has stopped working

Error Message 2
Failed Loading Packager Data Element (PD_SOL_COMMON) for the Install Feature (Business Portal)

Cause

This problem occurs when the Dynamics SL databases are migrated to a different database server. The BusinessPortalUser that is associated with the databases is orphaned from the previous Business Portal installation.

Resolution

To resolve this problem, drop the BusinessPortalUser from the Dynamics SL databases, and then run the Business Portal installation. To this following these steps:

 1. Use SQL Server Management Studio to access the Microsoft Dynamics SL databases.

2. Run the follow statement against each Microsoft Dynamics SL database:

sp_dropuser BusinessPortalUser

3. Run the Business Portal installation.
