Cause

Large values indicate that applications are crawling or searching mailboxes and that server performance is being affected. These applications may include desktop search engines, customer relationship management (CRM), or other third-party applications.

In this case, a corrupted index catalog for the mailbox database is logging the following event in the Application log:

Log Name: Application
Source: MSExchangeIS Mailbox Store

Task Category: Content Indexing
Level: Error

Resolution

To resolve this issue, follow these steps:
  1. Open the Microsoft Exchange Management Shell, and then locate the following folder in the location where Exchange is installed:
    <Drive>:\Program Files\Microsoft\Exchange Server\V14\Scripts
  2. Run the ResetSearchIndex.ps1 script as follows:
    .\ ResetSearchIndex.ps1 force "Database Name"

This procedure rebuilds the index catalog, stops the Microsoft Exchange Search Service, deletes the old catalog, and then restarts the service.

Event ID 110 will be logged in the Application log when the catalog indexing finishes.
