MS12-052: Cumulative Security Update for Internet Explorer: August 14, 2012

Microsoft revised this bulletin to offer the rerelease of security update 2722913. This revision addresses an issue with specific digital certificates that were generated by Microsoft without the correct time stamp attributes.

Known issues and additional information about this security update

After you install one of the update packages that are described in Microsoft security bulletin MS12-052, you may experience issues with specific digital certificates that were generated by Microsoft without the correct time stamp attributes.

To resolve these issues, install a more recent Cumulative Security Update for Internet Explorer. For example, installing the corresponding update package from the MS12-063 Cumulative Security Update for Internet Explorer can resolve the issue. Because the updates are cumulative, installing the corresponding update package from an even more recent or the most recent Cumulative Security Update for Internet Explorer can also resolve the issue.





Note Most customers have automatic updating enabled and will not have to take any action to resolve these issues because the latest Cumulative Security Update for Internet Explorer has already been downloaded and installed automatically.

General distribution release (GDR) fixes

Individual updates may not be installed, depending on the version of Windows and the version of the affected application. Please view the individual articles to determine your update status.

Hotfixes

Security update 2722913 packages for Windows XP and for Windows Server 2003 include Internet Explorer hotfix files and general distribution release (GDR) files. If no existing Internet Explorer files are from the hotfix environment, security update 2722913 installs the GDR files.

Hotfixes are intended to correct only the problems that are described in the Microsoft Knowledge Base articles that are associated with the hotfixes. Apply hotfixes only to systems that are experiencing these specific problems.

These hotfixes may receive additional testing. Therefore, if you are not severely affected by this problem, we recommend that you wait for the next service pack that contains these hotfixes.
