A webpage that has a long URL may not print to a network printer in Internet Explorer 9

Consider the following scenario. You try to print a webpage to a network printer in Windows Internet Explorer 9. The webpage has a URL that contains more than 255 characters. In this scenario, the webpage may not print.

Note�Although this problem does not always occur, it may occur if the network printer uses a special print driver.

This problem occurs because Internet Explorer uses the URL of the webpage to generate the name of the print job that is passed to the printer.

In Internet Explorer 8, the name of the print job is trimmed to 64 characters before it is submitted for printing. However, in Internet Explorer 9, the name of the print job is not trimmed. It is up to the printing subsystem and its drivers to handle the print jobs.

Note�Some print drivers cannot handle print jobs whose names contain more than 255 or 261 characters.

To resolve this problem, install the update that is described in this section.
