Symptoms

When you click a hyperlink in an Office 2000 document, you receive an error message similar to the following:
Unable to open site name. A security problem has occurred.

Cause

From an Office program, if you follow a link to an https:// site that requires you to have a personal security certificate, you can follow the link only if you already visited the site by using Microsoft Internet Explorer and the site is in your cache. Otherwise, you receive the error message described in the "Symptoms" section of this article.

Workaround

To work around this problem, access the Web site by using Internet Explorer before you attempt to access it via a hyperlink in an Office document.
