You cannot print a document in Internet Explorer 8 or Internet Explorer 9 after you close Print Preview by using the Close (red X) button

View products that this article applies to.

Symptoms

Consider that you use Print Preview in Internet Explorer 8 or Internet Explorer 9 to preview a document which uses an ActiveX MIME handler such as Visio Viewer. When you close Print Preview by using the Close button (the red X in the upper-right corner of the Print Previewdialog box) and then try to print the document, Internet Explorer does not print the document. Instead, the printed page contains only the header and footer information from Internet Explorer. Additionally, when you open Print Preview again for the document, the ActiveX container is active within Print Preview and can react to mouse-click events.

Notes
  • This problem does not occur when you use an HTML-based webpage that loads additional ActiveX controls.
  • This problem does not occur when you leave Print Preview by printing the page or when you close thePrint Previewdialog box by pressing Esc or Alt+C.
