Setting the value of an option for the HTML Forms Select element in Internet Explorer 9 may fail in an Office application that uses the Windowed SELECT control

Symptoms

On a computer that has Internet Explorer 9 installed, you use the WebBrowser control embedded in an Office application. You may notice that setting the value of an option for the HTML Forms Select element may fail.

For example, this problem occurs in applications that use the Windowed SELECT control instead of the Windowless SELECT control.

To resolve this problem, install this update.

Workaround

To work around this issue for Office applications, force the Office application to use the Windowless SELECT control. For example, set the respective Office application DWORD value as follows:
Registry location:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\MAIN\FeatureControl\FEATURE_USE_WINDOWEDSELECTCONTROL

DWORD value: 0

Note�For an x86-based system, remove the Wow6432Node part from the registry path.
