Duplicate triggers are generated incorrectly in scheduled tasks in Windows Vista or in Windows Server 2008

View products that this article applies to.

Symptoms

Consider the following scenario:
  • You install security update 2305420, which is documented in security bulletin MS10-092, on a computer that is running Windows Vista or Windows Server 2008.
  • You create a scheduled task which has at least one trigger.
  • You disable and then enable the scheduled task.
In this scenario, duplicate triggers are generated incorrectly in the scheduled task. The duplicate triggers may cause various issues.

Most of the time, the following events are logged in the Microsoft-Windows-TaskScheduler/Operational log:
Log Name: Microsoft-Windows-TaskScheduler/Operational
Source: Microsoft-Windows-TaskScheduler
Date: date
Event ID: 101
Task Category: Task Start Failed
Level: Error
Keywords:
User: SYSTEM
Computer: computer name
Description:

Log Name: Microsoft-Windows-TaskScheduler/Operational
Source: Microsoft-Windows-TaskScheduler
Date: date
Event ID: 322
Task Category: Launch request ignored, instance already running
Level: Warning
Keywords:
User: SYSTEM
Computer: computer name
