INTRODUCTION

Issues that this hotfix package fixes

  • Assume that you open a PowerPoint 2010 presentation in Windows Internet Explorer 7 or in Windows Internet Explorer 8. When you try to print the presentation, the print operation fails. When this occurs, you do not receive an error message.
  • Assume that you have a PowerPoint presentation that contains a hyperlink that links to a sublocation of a document. For example, the PowerPoint Presentation contains the following hyperlink that links to a cell of an Excel workbook:
    D:\ test\test.xlsx#Sheet2!G15
    If you save the PowerPoint presentation in PowerPoint 2010, the sublocation of the document in the presentation is removed. For the previous example, the link is changed to the following:
    D:\ test\test.xlsx
  • Assume that you have a PowerPoint 2010 presentation that is saved on a UNC share. The file name of the presentation contains a number sign (#). When you try to open the presentation through a link in Internet Explorer, the open operation fails.
  • Assume that you have a .ppt file that is protected by using Information Rights Management (IRM) on a network share. When you open the file in PowerPoint 2010, a File In Use dialog box appears. However, the dialog box does not display the correct name of the user who locked the file. Therefore, you cannot edit the file.

Hotfix information

A supported hotfix is available from Microsoft. However, this hotfix is intended to correct only the problems that are described in this article. Apply this hotfix only to systems that are experiencing the problems described in this article. This hotfix might receive additional testing. Therefore, if you are not severely affected by this problem, we recommend that you wait for the next software update that contains this hotfix.
