INTRODUCTION

Issue that this hotfix package fixes

  • After you redirect a hyperlink destination from a slide of a different presentation to another slide of the initial presentation, the .pptx file is corrupted and cannot be reopened in PowerPoint 2010.
  • Consider the following scenario:
    • You insert an ActiveX control into a PowerPoint 97-2003 Presentation in PowerPoint 2010. 
    • You continuously save the presentation for several times.
    • You close the presentation, and then you reopen it.

    In this scenario, you receive the following error message in a dialog box:

    PowerPoint found a problem with the content in File Name.ppt.

    PowerPoint can attempt to repair the presentation.

    If you trust the source of this presentation, click Repair.

    Note The ActiveX control disappears in the presentation after you click the Repair button.
  • Consider the following scenario:
    • You save a presentation as a .pptx file in PowerPoint 2010.
    • You use the Send Using E-mail command to send the presentation as an attachment.
    • You try to open the attachment in Outlook.

    In this scenario, the .pptx file is converted into a .ppt file. Additionally, you receive the following error message when you open the file:

    PowerPoint found a problem with content in File Name.pptx.

    PowerPoint can attempt to repair the presentation.

    If you trust the source of this presentation, click Repair.

Hotfix information

A supported hotfix is available from Microsoft. However, this hotfix is intended to correct only the problem that is described in this article.
