IPv6 DAD state does not switch back to Preferred state from Deprecated state in Windows Vista, in Windows Server 2008, in Windows 7, or in Windows Server 2008 R2

View products that this article applies to.

Symptoms

Assume that you use an IPv6 address on a computer that is running Windows Vista, Windows Server 2008, Windows 7, or Windows Server 2008 R2. If the IPv6 address falls into Deprecated state under certain situations (for example, no router advertisement (RA) message is received on the computer within the preferred lifetime), the IPv6 Duplicate Address Detection (DAD) state does not switch back to Preferred state even if the situations are resolved.
