Introduction

Issues that this hotfix package fixes

  • Consider the following scenario:
    • You have two Excel 2007 workbooks that use Office Open XML Formats or Binary Interchange File Format 12 (BIFF 12). These workbooks are located in two separate folders that are mapped to a mounted drive.
    • One of the Excel workbooks has links to data in the other Excel workbook. For example, workbook A has links to data in workbook B.
    • You use a Universal Naming Convention (UNC) path to open workbook B. For example, you use the \\server\share\main path to open workbook B.
    • You open workbook A and then update the links in workbook A to the data in workbook B.
In this scenario, the changes are not saved in workbook A. Additionally, you may receive the following error message:
This workbook contains one or more links that cannot be updated.
Note The update that is provided prevents problems in newly created workbooks, but it does not repair existing workbooks.
  • When you do one of the following operations, Excel 2007 may crash:
    • You try to insert Excel workbooks that contain embedded or linked objects into third-party applications.
    • You try to insert third-party application files into an Excel workbook.
    • You try to use recovery mode in Excel 2007 to recover an Excel workbook.
    • You try to preview an Excel workbook in Windows Explorer.
