ODBC Connection Leak with DAO 3.6

Symptoms

When opening and closing multiple ODBC SQL pass through type recordsets using DAO 3.6, the number of ODBC connections to the backend database increases with each opened recordset.

Cause

An internal change in DAO 3.6 and Microsoft Jet database engine 4.0 prevent the release of the ODBC connections, resulting in a connection leak. This problem does not occur when using Jet 3.5 and DAO 3.5.

Resolution
