"Some items cannot be deleted" error message when you try to delete or modify an email message in a public folder in an Exchange Server 2007 environment

Symptoms

Consider the following scenario:
  • You move an email message from a folder to a public folder by using Microsoft Office Outlook in online mode in a Microsoft Exchange Server 2007 environment.
  • You try to delete or modify the email message in the public folder.
In this scenario, the operation fails and�you receive the following error message:

Some items cannot be deleted. They were either moved or already deleted, or access was denied.

Cause

This issue occurs because the creator entry id is not set in the email message when you move the email message. Therefore, the creator ownership verification fails when you delete or modify the email message.

Resolution

To resolve this issue, install the following update rollup:

Workaround

To work around this issue, use Outlook in cache mode.
