OFF2000: Lines in a Graph Are Missing When Inserted into an Office Document

Symptoms

When you insert a graph into one of the programs listed in the "Applies to" section of this article, some of the lines in the graph are missing.

Cause

This occurs if the following are true:
  • The graph you are inserting is a Windows Metafile (*.wmf). -and-

  • The lines in the graph were created using zero length solid lines with a scalable pen width.

Resolution

To resolve this problem, obtain Microsoft Office 2000 Service Release 1/1a (SR-1/SR-1a).

To temporarily work around this problem, place the metafile on a nonwhite background. The missing lines may appear. For example, in PowerPoint, follow these steps:
  1. Open a new blank presentation.
  2. On the Format menu, click Background, and select a background color other than white. Click Apply.
  3. On the Insert menu, point to Picture and click From File. Select the Windows metafile, and click Insert.

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article. This problem was corrected in Microsoft Office 2000 SR-1/SR-1a.
