You cannot save an auto-saved document without saving the auto-revision information when the AutoRecover feature is enabled in Office 2010

Symptoms

Assume that you enable the AutoRecover feature in Microsoft Excel 2010. Additionally, the roaming profile has reached its maximum storage limit. In this situation, you cannot save an auto-saved document without saving the auto-revision information.

Note The auto-saved document and the auto-revision information are saved in the roaming profile  when the AutoRecover feature is enabled in Excel 2010.

Resolution

Method 1:
The AutoRevision file will be saved to the user roaming profile, if the original Office document is large, the AutoRevision file will be large as well. This may consume a large amount of disk space. Increasing storage of the roaming profile could reduce the possibility of using up all storage for the roaming profile.

Method 2:
If the storage of a roaming profile is limited and cannot be increased, use the hotfix listed below:

To resolve this issue, apply the following update:

After you install the hotfix package, follow these steps to enable the hotfix:
  1. Click Start, click Run, type regedit in the Open box, and then click OK.
  2. Locate and then select the following registry subkey:
    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\14.0\Common
  3. On the Edit menu, point to New, and then click Key.
  4. Type Resiliency, and then press ENTER.
  5. Locate and then select the following registry subkey:
    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\14.0\Common\Resiliency
  6. On the Edit menu, point to New, and then click DWORD (32-bit) value.
  7. Type DisableAutoRevisions, and then press ENTER.
  8. In the Details pane, right-click DisableAutoRevisions, and then click Modify.
  9. In the Value data box, type 1, and then click OK.
  10. Exit Registry Editor.
