Mounted folders disappear in shared folders after navigating to them in Windows 7, Windows Vista, Windows Server 2008 or Windows Server 2008 R2

Symptoms

Volume mount points in shared folders may sometimes appear as 'Hidden' when you navigate through the content of the folders and click 'Back' in Windows Explorer.

Cause

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in the products in the Applies To section of this article. The symptom occurs due to an issue with SMBv2.

Resolution

Configure the following registry key on the client machine:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\LanmanWorkstation\Parameters

Create a DWORD value named DirectoryCacheLifetime and give it a binary or hexidecimal value of 0.
