The MsExchangeTransport service stops when the Hub server occasionally stops handling the mail flow in an Exchange Server 2007 environment

Symptoms

In a Microsoft Exchange Server 2007 environment, the Hub server occasionally stops handling the mail flow. Therefore, the MsExchangeTransport service enters a stopped state. Additionally, an event that resembles the following is logged in the Application log:
Time: <date, time>
ID: 4999
Level: Error
Provider: MSExchange Common
Machine: SRV02007.service.local Message: Watson report about to be sent to dw20.exe for process id: 2952, with parameters: E12, c-RTL-AMD64, 08,02,0247,002, edgetransport, M.E.Transport, M.E.P.S.SmtpInServer.HandleConnection, System.NullReferenceException, 69f8, 29520, ErrorReportingEnabled: 29521

To resolve this issue, install the following update rollup:
