Symptoms

When the FrontPage 2000 Server Extensions for UNIX are installed to a virtual site, a *.cnf configuration file is created in the Usr/Local/Frontpage directory.

Cause

There is a 60,000-file limit to one directory on UNIX. Therefore, a UNIX server cannot have more than 60,000 virtual sites with the FrontPage 2000 Server Extensions.

Resolution

To resolve this problem, obtain Microsoft Office 2000 Service Release 1/1a (SR-1/SR-1a).

Workaround
