Symptoms

If you attempt to open a Sample Project included with Microsoft Encarta Research Organizer 2000 from Windows Explorer, you may experience one or more of the following symptoms:
A previous version of Encarta Research Organizer may start and open the Sample Project.

You may receive the following error message:
You need a new version of Research Organizer to open this file.

Cause

This behavior can occur if the following conditions are true:
You install Encarta Research Organizer 2000 without removing a previous version of Encarta Research Organizer.

The most recent instance of Encarta Research Organizer you started is the previous version of Encarta Research Organizer that is still installed on your computer.

You attempt to open the Sample Project from Windows Explorer.

Resolution

To resolve this issue:
1.Start Encarta Research Organizer 2000.
2.Under Get Started, click View Sample Projects.
3.Click a sample project, and then click Open.

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in Microsoft Encarta Encyclopedia 2000.

To prevent this issue from occurring, remove any previous versions of Encarta Research Organizer installed on your computer after you install Encarta Encyclopedia 2000.
