OFF2000: Unable to Change Registration Method

View products that this article applies to.

Symptoms

When you start one of the Office programs, you may be prompted to enter a confirmation number in the Office 2000 Registration Wizard (ORW) dialog box. However, you may only see buttons for Telephone or Register Later and not the More Options button that was displayed the first time the ORW ran on your computer.

Cause

If you previously chose to register using any one of the following methods, you cannot change your registration method at a later time.
  • E-mail
  • Internal fax
  • External fax or Postal Mail
When you use one of the above three methods, you subsequently receive a confirmation number back from Microsoft. Until you enter that confirmation number in the ORW, you will be prompted for it each time you start one of the Office programs. The ORW does not have the ability to change registration methods after you have submitted your information.

Workaround

If you have not received your confirmation number, you can wait until it arrives or you can do the following:
  1. Start one of the Office programs.
  2. Click Telephone in the Offline Registration dialog box of the ORW. This displays the Telephone Registration dialog box of the ORW.

  3. Select your country in the Select your country/region from the list below list box.
  4. Call the telephone number displayed in Step 2 of this dialog box.
  5. Enter the confirmation number provided by the Microsoft representative.
