Removing FrontPage Server Extensions Leaves Server Extended

Symptoms

When you remove the FrontPage 2000 Server Extensions or Office Server Extensions by using Add/Remove Programs in Control Panel, the server is still extended. This occurs when you have Microsoft Office, or the FrontPage or Visual InterDev client installed on the server.

Workaround

To completely unextend the server, do the following:
  1. Click Start and point to Programs.
  2. Point to Windows NT 4.0 Option Pack.
  3. Point to Microsoft Internet Information Server and click Internet Service Manager.
  4. Right-click each virtual server and click Remove Server Extensions.
  5. When you have uninstalled from every virtual server, click Add\Remove Snap-in on the Console menu.
  6. Remove Microsoft Server Extensions from the Standalone tab and uncheck FrontPage Server Extensions from the Extensions tab.
  7. Click OK, close the MMC, and save the changes.
The options on the Task menu and the Server Extensions tab on the properties sheet will be removed.

Uninstalling from Add/Remove programs removes the Microsoft Data Engine and offers to delete its database, which disables the use of discussions.
