"The operation failed" error message in Outlook client when a user sends a recurring meeting request with an email message attachment in an Exchange Server 2007 SP2 environment

Symptoms

Consider the following scenario:
  • You apply the Update Rollup 2 for Microsoft Exchange Server 2007 Service Pack 2 (SP2) or a later version update on a computer that is running Exchange Server 2007.
  • A user accesses a mailbox that is hosted on the server by using Microsoft Office Outlook.
  • The user tries to send a recurring meeting request or a recurring appointment that has an email message attachment.
In this scenario, the user receives the following error message in the Outlook client:
