Error Installing FrontPage 2000 Server Extensions on Terminal Server

Symptoms

When you attempt to install the FrontPage 2000 Server Extensions by running Servext.exe from the FrontPage 2000 compact disc on a Windows NT 4.0 Terminal Server computer, the FrontPage Server Extensions do not install and the following error messages occur:

Some default settings in FrontPage Server Extensions do not work properly on a Windows Terminal Server. To install FrontPage Server Extensions on Terminal Server, you must use the instructions and tools available in your Office 2000 Resource Kit or at http://www.microsoft.com/Office/Ork.

Installation ended prematurely because of an error.

Cause

The stand-alone version of the FrontPage 2000 Server Extensions, Servext.exe, located on the FrontPage 2000 compact disc is not designed to install the Server Extensions on Terminal Server.

Resolution

To resolve this issue, perform one of the following workarounds:

Install FrontPage 2000, which includes the FrontPage Server Extensions.

1.	Obtain the TermSrvr.mst file from the Office 2000 Resource Kit Tool Set at: http://www.microsoft.com/office/ork/2000/appndx/toolbox.htm
2.	In Control Panel, click Add/Remove Programs and click Install.
3.	Insert the FrontPage 2000 compact disc into the CD-ROM drive and click Next.
4.	Type the following syntax: e:\Setup.exe TRANSFORMS="c:\TermSrvr.mst" Note: This syntax assumes the CD-ROM drive is e: and the TermSrvr.mst file is located at c:\TermSrvr.mst.
5.	Click Next, and then select All users begin with common application settings.
6.	After FrontPage 2000 finishes installing, click Next .
7.	This completes the installation; both the FrontPage client and the FrontPage Server Extensions will now be installed.

Install the download version of the FrontPage 2000 Server Extensions, which is designed to install on Terminal Server.

1.	Download the FrontPage 2000 Server Extensions from the Microsoft Web site at: http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/library/aa278914(office.10).aspx The download version of the FrontPage 2000 Server Extensions
2.	After downloading the Server Extensions, open Control Panel, click Add/Remove Programs and click Install.
3.	In the command line for installation program dialog box, click Browse to select the file location of the download executable. For example, c:\fpse2k_x86_ENG.exe.
4.	Click Next, and select All users begin with common application settings.
5.	Restart your computer to complete the installation.
