View products that this article applies to.

Symptoms

For example, if you change the installation state of Microsoft Excel Help to Run from My Computer, then the installation state of Add-ins and Microsoft Map are also changed to Run from My Computer.

Cause

For all of the features listed later in this article, Not Available is not an installation state that can be directly set in the Microsoft Office 2000: Selecting Features dialog box. These features can be indirectly set to Not Available by setting the installation state of the parent program to Not Available.

Status

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.

More information

Child features inherit the installation state of the parent feature when you set the parent feature to Not Available. For example, setting the installation state of Microsoft Excel to Not Available changes the installation state of all the child features of Excel to Not Available.

If you change the installation state of one of the following programs to Not Available, you change the installation state of the child features for that product to Not Available:
  • Microsoft Access for Windows
  • Microsoft Excel for Windows
  • Microsoft PowerPoint for Windows

However, when you change the installation state of any of the following features, the installation state of its siblings will also change: Access
  • Help
  • Typical Wizards
  • Additional Wizards
  • Snapshot Viewer
  • Database Replication
Excel
  • Help
  • Add-Ins
  • Microsoft Map
PowerPoint
  • Help
  • Tutorial
  • Design Templates
  • Genigraphics Wizard
  • Pack and Go Wizard
