HTML is reformatted when component properties are modified in HTML view in FrontPage

Symptoms

When you change the tag properties of a Microsoft FrontPage component in HTML view, the HTML code is reformatted to the original HTML.

You may receive the following error message when you return to Normal view:
The contents of a FrontPage component have been modified. These contents will be overwritten when you save this page.

Cause

FrontPage preserves the HTML of a FrontPage component in Normal view.

Resolution

If you want to make modifications to the FrontPage component settings, use the component properties in Normal view. Or, if you want to customize properties of the component that might not be exposed in the user interface, edit the file in another text editor, such as Notepad.
