Symptoms

When you use the Import Wizard to import an existing Web with a navigation structure into a newly created Web in Microsoft FrontPage, the navigation structure is not imported and appears to be lost.

Cause

The Import Wizard only imports existing content and regenerates the configuration information files that are required for a FrontPage Web. The Import Wizard was designed to import non-FrontPage-related content into your Web.
  • If the Web that you are importing is disk-based, the Import Wizard does not import the navigation structure configuration file (structure.cnf) that is located in the _vti_pvt folder.
  • If the Web that you are importing is server-based, the wizard cannot access the _vti_pvt folder from a remote location.

Resolution

If the Web that you are importing was created by using FrontPage, use the Publish command on the File menu to copy the Web to the destination location. This keeps the navigation structure intact.
