Symptoms

When you use a version of Microsoft Access earlier than Access 97 to link to a very large Microsoft Excel spreadsheet, your computer may appear to stop responding when you attempt to create a report.

Cause

This behavior can occur because it may take 30 minutes or more to create a report when a version of Access earlier than Access 97 is linked to a very large Excel worksheet.

NOTE: A marginally adequate computer (Pentium 100 with 32 megabytes [MB] of RAM) may take more than 4 hours to complete this task.
