XL2000: Error Quitting WordPad Document That Contains a Worksheet

Symptoms

When you quit Microsoft WordPad, you may receive the following error message:
This program has performed an illegal operation and will be shut down. If the problem persists, contact the program vendor.
If you click Details, you receive an error message similar to either of the following:
EXCEL caused an invalid page fault in module EXCEL.EXE at 0137:30129e22.
EXCEL caused an invalid page fault in module KERNEL32.DLL at 0137:bff9a5d0.

Cause

This problem occurs if the following conditions are true:
In WordPad, you insert a Microsoft Excel Worksheet object that is displayed as an object into a document.

-and-
You switch to the worksheet object by double-clicking it.

-and-
Without closing Microsoft Excel 2000, you switch back to WordPad and quit the program without saving changes to the file.

-and-
You are running Microsoft Windows 95 .

Resolution

To resolve this problem, click Close & Return to Document on the File menu in Microsoft Excel 2000 before you quit WordPad.
