Exchange Server 2007 Outlook Web Access users cannot delete messages from the Outbox folder

Symptoms

Consider the following scenario. You are logged on to Microsoft Exchange Server 2007 by using Microsoft Office Outlook Web Access. When you try to delete a message from the Outbox folder, you find that you cannot delete the message. And, you receive the following error message:
The item cannot be deleted. It has been moved or deleted, or access was denied.

Cause

This behavior is by design. Outlook Web Access does not enable you to delete items from the Outbox folder, and it does not support canceling email message submission.

Workaround

To work around this issue, follow these steps:
  1. Use Microsoft Outlook to log on to the mailbox.
  2. Open the Outbox folder, and then delete the email message.

More information

You can see this issue when you use Delayed/Deferred Delivery email messages. When Delayed/Deferred Delivery email messages are created, they remain in the Outbox pending the delivery time that is specified. If you try to use Outlook Web Access to delete the item, the operation is not successful, and you receive the error that is mentioned in the "Symptoms" section.
