Symptoms

The Microsoft Exchange Server Message Transfer Agent (MTA) may stop unexpectedly with the following Event ID error when receiving mail from the HP X400 MTA:

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in Microsoft Exchange Server version 4.0.
