You cannot log on to Outlook Web Access in an Exchange Server 2007 environment, and you receive an error message: "HTTP Error 403.4"

View products that this article applies to.

Symptoms

In a Microsoft Exchange Server 2007 environment, you use a third-party Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) offloader. In this case, you cannot log on to Microsoft Office Outlook Web Access 2007 when you use the following link:
https://<servername>/owa
Additionally, you may see an "HTTP Error 403.4" error message on the Web page when you try to use that link. However, you can successfully log on to Outlook Web Access if you add a slash mark character (/) to the end of the link, as in the following example:
https://<servername>/owa/

Cause

This problem occurs because SSL offloading should respond to all links as HTTPS protocol requests. However, SSL offloading does not respond to links as HTTPS protocol requests on the logon page. Instead, SSL offloading redirects users who try to connect by using a link that ends with "/owa" to the HTTP protocol (http://).
