Category setting on an item in Outlook jumps the selection to the top of the list in an Exchange Server 2013 environment

Symptoms

Assume that you have a folder in Microsoft Outlook that is arranged by category in a Microsoft Exchange Server 2013 environment. You scroll down to set a category on an item. In this situation, the view in Outlook is returned to the top of the list.

Note This issue occurs in both Outlook 2010 and Outlook 2013 clients. But it occurs only when you connect to Exchange Server 2013.

Cause

This issue occurs because Outlook cannot find the row based on its original instance key which is changed when the folder is set to be arranged by category.

Resolution

To resolve this issue, install Cumulative Update 9 for Exchange Server 2013.
