Symptoms

Consider the following scenario:

  • You run the following command on a Windows RT 8.1, Windows 8.1, Windows Server 2012 R2, Windows 8, or a Windows Server 2012-based computer:
    CHKDSK /Scan <Drive_Letter>:
  • Then you create a transient snapshot on a thin provisioned volume at the same time.
In this scenario, chkdsk reports errors on the drive if the snapshot runs within the second phase of chkdsk. However, when the snapshot is complete, everything is fine again, and chkdsk does not report any errors.
