Can’t join an online meeting through a proxy server that only supports basic authentication in Lync 2010

Symptoms

This issue occurs in the following scenario:
  • You sign in to Microsoft Lync 2010 in an organization that has a proxy server deployed, and the proxy server only supports basic authentication.
  • A Lync 2010 user in a non-federated organization sends you an invitation for an online meeting.
  • You try to join the meeting.

    Note To join the meeting, you must access the Internet through the proxy server.

Resolution

To resolve this issue, install the following cumulative update:
2884632 Description of the cumulative update package for Lync 2010: October 2013

Cause

This issue occurs because Lync 2010 does not prompt the user to input credentials for the proxy server.

To work around this issue, you must use a proxy server that supports NTLM authentication.
