MS11-074: Description of the security update for SharePoint Server 2010 (pplwfe): September 13, 2011

• After you install this security update, profile synchronization may stop working. Additionally, an error message that resembles the following may be logged in Event Viewer:
  The server encountered an unexpected error and stopped.
  "BAIL: MMS(2532): storeimp.cpp(308): 0x80230443 (Service start up has failed. Cannot open the FIM Synchronization Service database because the database schema version in existing database does not match the required version.)
  Resolution
  
  To resolve this issue, restart the User Profile Synchronization service. To do this, follow these steps:
  1. Open Central Administration.
  2. In the System Settings section, click Manage Services.
  3. Find User Profile Synchronization Service in the list of services. If its status is Started, click Stop. Click Start, and then provide the credentials to start the User Profile Synchronization service.
• If you have not installed the prerequisites for this security update, you may experience the following issues after you install this security update:
  
  1. Users cannot browse to or use the SharePoint publishing sites. Additionally, users receive the following error message:
     An unexpected error has occurred.
     When this issue occurs, the following error log is logged in the ULS log or on the SharePoint page if the  CallStack attribute is set to true in the web.config file:
     Method not found: 'Void Microsoft.Office.Server.WebControls.AudienceLoader.GetAudiencesFetchedDuringPageRequest(System.Collections.Generic.Dictionary`2<System.Guid,Boolean> ByRef, System.Collections.Generic.Dictionary`2<System.String,Boolean> ByRef, System.Collections.Generic.Dictionary`2<System.String,Boolean> ByRef)'.
  2. Administrators receive the following error message when they navigate to the user profile service application management page from central administration:
     System.IO.FileNotFoundException: Could not load file or assembly 'Microsoft.ResourceManagement, Version=4.0.2450.34, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=31bf3856ad364e35' or one of its dependencies. The system cannot find the file specified. at Microsoft.Office.Server.UserProfiles.UserProfileConfigManager.InitializeIlmClient(String ILMMachineName, Int32 FIMWebClientTimeOut) at Microsoft.Office.Server.UserProfiles.UserProfileConfigManager..ctor(UserProfileApplicationProxy userProfileApplicationProxy, Guid partitionID) at Microsoft.SharePoint.Portal.UserProfiles.AdminUI.ProfileAdminPage.IsProfileSynchronizationRunning()
     
  
  Cause
  
  Multiple packages were released as part of the security bulletin MS11-074 that affect SharePoint Server 2010. All applicable packages must be installed on SharePoint servers to make sure that version inconsistencies are not created in the environment. However, it has been observed that only KB2560890 was pushed to servers through Windows Server Update Services (WSUS). Therefore, these issues occur. 
  
  Resolution
  
  To resolve these issues, manually install all the update packages for SharePoint Server 2010 that are included in this security bulletin. The packages are listed in the Prerequisites to apply this security update section. To download these packages, visit the following Microsoft website:
