A connect may be lost to a proxy server or to a NLB server if you create a VPN to a Windows Server 2008 R2-based domain by using SSTP

View products that this article applies to.

Symptoms

Consider the following scenario:
  • You remotely connect to a Windows Server 2008 R2-based domain.
  • The remote connection is a virtual private network (VPN) connection that uses the Secure Socket Tunneling Protocol (SSTP).
  • When no traffic is detected after 70 seconds, the SSTP connection between the client and the server is maintained by the Hello interval. The Hello interval is the time before a Hello packet is sent between the client and the server.
In this scenario, the connection to a proxy server or to a network load balancing (NLB) server may be lost.

Cause

This issue may occur because the proxy server or the NLB server expires its status usually in less than 60 seconds, and because the default Hello interval between the client and server is 70 seconds.

  2. Locate and then click to select the following registry subkey:
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{4D36E972-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}\0000
  3. Right-click HelloTicks, and then click Modify.
