The GetLastError function returns an incorrect value when the StartDoc function fails in a computer that is running a 64-bit version operating system

Symptoms

Consider the following scenario:
  • You have a computer that is running a 64-bit version operating system.
  • You run a 32-bit application that calls the StartDoc function to print files by using the Microsoft XPS Document Writer printer.
  • You cancel the print job. Then, then the�StartDoc function fails.
In this scenario, the GetLastError�function incorrectly returns ERROR_INSUFFICIENT_BUFFER (122)�and you receive the following error message:�
The data area passed to a system call is too small.
Note You expect�the�GetLastError�function�to return�ERROR_CANCELLED�(1223). Additionally, you expect to�receive the following error message:�
The operation was canceled by the user.

Resolution

Hotfix information

A supported hotfix is available from Microsoft. However, this hotfix is intended to correct only the problem that is described in this article. Apply this hotfix only to systems that are experiencing the problem described in this article. This hotfix might receive additional testing. Therefore, if you are not severely affected by this problem, we recommend that you wait for the next software update that contains this hotfix.

Windows Vista and Windows Server 2008 file information notes
Important Windows Vista hotfixes and Windows Server 2008 hotfixes are included in the same packages. However, only "Windows Vista" is listed on the Hotfix Request page.
