Some providers may receive an incorrect password value from the OLEDB32 component if the password in the connection string is blank in Windows 7 or in Windows Server 2008 R2

View products that this article applies to.

Symptoms

Some providers may receive an incorrect password value from the OLEDB32 component. This behavior occurs if the password in the connection string is blank in Windows 7 or in Windows Server 2008 R2.

This issue affects the providers that meet both of the following conditions:
  • The provider does not support COM aggregation.
  • The provider uses an empty string (VT_BSTR L) as the default value for OLE DB property DBPROP_AUTH_PASSWORD.
For example, when you provide a blank password in the following connection string to the provider, the provider receives lots of junk instead of a null value when password is passed into the provider.

Server = localhost; Data Source = SomeCatalog ; User Id = ; Password = ;
