INTRODUCTION

The Desktop Experience feature is needed if you want to start Microsoft OneNote 2010 in Windows Server 2008.

When you try to start OneNote 2010 on a computer that is running Windows Server 2008 and does not have the Desktop Experience feature installed, you receive the following error message:
OneNote cannot start because the Desktop Experience feature is not installed. Install it in the Windows Control Panel > Programs and Features > Turn Windows features on or off.
To install the Desktop Experience feature, follow these steps:
  1. Click Start,the Start button and then type Programs and Features in the Search box.
  2. Click Programs and Features.
  3. Select Turn Windows features on or off.
  4. In Server Manager, expand Features Summary, and then click Add Features.
  5. In the Add Features Wizard, select the Desktop Experience dialog box, and then click Next.
Note You may have to restart the computer after the Desktop Experience feature is installed. After you install the Desktop Experience feature, you can start OneNote 2010 successfully.
