A delegate receives only one meeting request when someone sends a meeting request to several principals in an Exchange Server 2010 RU1 or later environment

View products that this article applies to.

Symptoms

Consider the following scenario:

In a Microsoft Exchange Server 2010 RU1 or later environment, multiple principals share one delegate.

Those principles set the My delegates only option to handle incoming meeting requests.

Someone sends a meeting request to two or more of the principals or sends a meeting request to one principal and to the delegate.

In this scenario, the delegate receives only one meeting request which is sent to the last recipient. In other words, the delegate cannot accept the meeting request on behalf of the principals who did not receive the meeting request. When the delegate option is set to My delegates only, the principals never receive a copy of the meeting request.

Note Generally, the principal could be a manager and the delegate could be the assistant. This problem affects any version of Outlook.

Cause

This problem occurs because the messages that are redirected to the principles obtain the same message ID as the original meeting requests. Therefore, the redirected meeting requests leave only one copy of the meeting request.
