View products that this article applies to.

Symptoms

You install Microsoft SQL Server 2008 Service Pack 1 (SP1) Analysis Services (SSAS 2008 SP1) and Microsoft SQL Server 2008 SP1 Management Studio (SSMS 2008 SP1) on a computer. Then, you install Microsoft SQL Server 2008 R2 Analysis Services (SSAS 2008 R2) on the same computer. In this situation, you encounter the following issues.

Issue 1

You open Connect Object Explorer in SSMS 2008 SP1. Then, you try to connect to a database engine server or to an SSAS server. However, you receive the following error message:
Method not found: 'Int32 Microsoft.SqlServer.Management.Sdk.Sfc.ISfcDomain.GetLogicalVersion()'. (ObjectExplorer)
Note When this issue occurs, you cannot use SSMS 2008 SP1 to connect to any versions of database engine or of SSAS. For example, you cannot use SSMS 2008 SP1 to connect to SQL Server 2005, to SQL Server 2008, or to SQL Server 2008 R2.

Issue 2

When you try to repair the Shared Tools installation, the Setup program crashes. Then, you receive the following error message:
The following error has occurred:

Internal call to CreateSKUCookie failed unexpectedly. Reinstalling SQL Support may resolve this issue.

Additionally, after the Setup program crashes, the status of the SQL Server Browser service is set to Disabled. In this situation, you cannot connect to a SQL Server named instance.
