The decimal point and the thousands separator do not change to match native "Hindi" formats when you use Microsoft Office applications to process financial data in Windows 7 or in Windows Server 2008 R2

View products that this article applies to.

Symptoms

You have a computer that is running an Arabic version of Windows 7 or Windows Server 2008 R2. When you use Microsoft Excel or other Microsoft Office applications to work with financial data on this computer, the decimal point and the thousands separator do not change to match native "Hindi" digits. Therefore, you cannot distinguish the decimal point from zero and you may read the data incorrectly.

Cause

How Arabic fonts are handled was changed in Windows Vista and in Windows 7 to fully comply with Unicode. This caused a change in the way that digits are substituted. Therefore, this issue occurs.
