Consider the following scenario:
Notes
- You have a client computer that is running Windows Server 2008 or Windows 7.
- You enable the Offline Files feature on the client computer.
- You use one of the following configurations to host files for the client computer on a remote file server:
- You redirect some folders on the client computer to shared folders on the remote file server.
- You configure a home drive for a user account. The home drive is hosted on the remote file server.
Notes
- If the accessed shared folders are cached in client-side caching (CSC) on the client computer, users can still access these shared folders. However, these folders are marked as offline even if there is an active connection between the client computer and the remote file server.
- If the accessed shared folders are not cached in CSC on the client computer, users cannot access these shared folders.
- This issue can also affect the offline file synchronization process. This can cause the offline cache to have an unknown state.
- This issue occurs more frequently when you use a third-party remote file server. This is because of timing issues on the client-side.
