You experience a long delay when the IVssBackupComponents::AddComponent is used to add thousands of components in Windows Server 2008 R2 or in Windows 7

Consider the following scenario. You have a computer that is running Windows Server 2008 R2 or Windows 7. You use the IVssBackupComponents::AddComponent method to add several thousands of components into a backup components document. In this scenario, the call to the DoSnapshotSet method takes a long time to be completed. Specifically, you notice a long delay between the PrepareBackup event and the PrepareSnapshot event.

This issue occurs because the IVssBackupComponents::AddComponent method takes a long time to scale each component. This causes a long delay when several thousands of components are backed up.

Hotfix information

A supported hotfix is available from Microsoft. However, this hotfix is intended to correct only the problem that is described in this article. Apply this hotfix only to systems that are experiencing the problem described in this article. This hotfix might receive additional testing.
