SharePoint document libraries are displayed in WebDav style instead of SharePoint HTML style in the Open dialog box and in the Save As dialog box on a computer that is running Windows 7 or Windows Server 2008 R2

Symptoms

Consider the following scenario:
  • You have a computer that is running Windows 7 or Windows Server 2008 R2.
  • You create a SharePoint site that contains Double Byte Character Set (DBCS) characters in the URL.
  • You create some document libraries in the SharePoint site. These document libraries have names that contain DBCS characters.
  • You run an application on the computer to open a file from the SharePoint site or you save a file to the SharePoint site.
In this scenario, the document libraries are displayed in the WebDav folder style and are not displayed in the SharePoint HTML style as expected.

For example,
  • You create a SharePoint site that contains Japanese characters in the following URL:
    http://sharepoint/sites/???
  • You create three of the following document libraries in this SharePoint site:
    • ??
    • ??
    • ???
  • You start Notepad, and then click Open on the File menu.
  • In the Open dialog box, you type "http://sharepoint/sites/???" into the address bar. Then you notice that the three document libraries are displayed as:
    • DocLib
    • DocLib1
    • DocLib2

You may experience one of the following problems when the issue occurs:
  • You cannot identify your desired document library from the document libraries that are displayed.
  • You cannot use the metadata based navigation in client application feature in SharePoint.
  • Routing enforced folders in the SharePoint site are unexpectedly visible.
  • The warning message is not displayed when the number of items that are queried exceeds the query thresholds.

Note This issue also occurs on a computer that is running Windows Vista or Windows Server 2008.

Cause

This issue occurs because of an error in a function that handles the DBCS URLs in Shell32.dll.
